How to reduce plastic odor? In daily life, all kinds of plastic products have been widely used, bringing people a lot of convenience. At the same time, there are also some problems, such as the smell of plastic. Most odors are unpleasant or harmful to human body, so plastic manufacturers and manufacturers are trying to remove odors.

1. Select purer resin

In many plastic guesses, especially in PVC, styrene, poly (ethyl acetate) and acrylate, a small amount of residual monomers will produce unpleasant smell. Choosing a resin with a small amount of monomer residue can reduce the smell of plastic. If you choose a resin that has no smell, it will also have a good effect.

2. Modification of additives

Tertiary amine, a catalyst used in the production of polyurethane foam, often brings strong odor and fogs on the inner windows of automobiles. The solution to this problem is to find alternatives to these amines. One of the measures is to use polyhydroxy compounds, which are not only components of polyurethane molecular chain, but also have catalytic activity. Some polyhydroxy compounds can even replace half of the tertiary amine catalyst, so the smell of the product is much weaker.

Phenol stabilizers used in PVC extrusion or calendering process are often replaced by zinc stabilizers with low odor. The heat stabilizer stannic octanoate is also commonly used in vehicle PVC products because of its low odor and low atomization characteristics. Vegetable extracted oils such as erucic acid and oleic acid have much less odor than amine lubricants (used in polyolefin and styrene food packaging materials) made from animal extracted oils.

3. Participate in adsorbent

If a few zeolites (an aluminosilicate adsorbent) are filled in the polymer, the odor of the material can be removed. Zeolite has a large number of crystalline voids, which can capture those small gas molecules with odor. Molecular adsorbents have been successfully applied to polyolefin extrusion pipes, injection and extrusion blow containers, isolation packaging materials, extrusion packaging materials and sealing polymers. Molecular adsorbed powder can also be used as a moisture absorbent in plastic molding to remove water vapor and prevent water vapor from causing plastic odor.

4. Selection of antibacterial agent

The addition of antibacterial agents in the molding process can not only reduce the odor, but also delay the aging, discoloration and embrittlement of the product surface. The most commonly used antibacterial agents are 10,10 '- oxo diphenoxaarsenic (OBPA), triclosan, isothiazolinone (OIT) and hydroxypyridinthione. Organometallic compounds containing tin and silver are sometimes used as antibacterial agents. Antibacterial agents are widely used in thermoplastic styrene elastomer TPO for food packaging, medical equipment, transparent food storage cabinets, etc.

5. Use desorption method

Another way to remove the odor is to place the plastic in odor adsorbents such as activated carbon and high surface area silicate. The vacuum treatment environment can speed up the desorption process. Treating plastic particles with a special detergent solution can also help remove odors. Generally speaking, these cleaners are aqueous or alkaline solutions containing surfactants. These cleaners can effectively remove vinyl chloride monomer, styrene, acrylate, acrylic monomer and unsaturated hydrocarbon.
